The best diet for weight loss may not be what you expect.  There are many fad diets out that claim extreme results for buying only the food that they sell, buying their pills and other sorts of craziness.  The facts of weight loss are much more simple than they seem to suggest, and certainly don’t require pills.

If You Need Dietary Supplements, It’s Not a Good Diet

Many fad diets and several established diets call for taking dietary supplements.  If you have to take pills to compensate for what you’re missing in your diet, it’s not a good diet.  In fact, taking vitamins in pill form should never be recommended when you can get them through your diet.

The problem with taking vitamin and mineral supplements is this—they spike your system with the vitamins and minerals, aren’t absorbed as well as their dietary relatives and leave you scarcely better off for the experience.  In fact, the spike in your vitamin and mineral levels can give you nausea and cause other health problems.  Whenever you can, get your vitamins and minerals through your food, not through a pill.

Organic Meat Should Be Your Source of Animal Proteins

Another feature of a good diet program is that you should get your animal proteins from organic meat.  On the surface, it may seem like it doesn’t make much difference that you choose organic over commercial sources.  The quality of organic meat is superior for several reasons.

One aspect of organic meat production is that the animals are free range.  This means that they feed on grass, rather than grain.  What this ultimately means to you is that they don’t transmit as many carbs to your system through consumption.

Another feature of organically raised meat is that they don’t use growth hormones and unnecessary antibiotics on the animals.  The lack of growth hormones is important, in that the animals are fed this stuff so that they will grow larger.  When you have an opposite goal, doesn’t it make sense to not expose yourself to them?  Antibiotics don’t have much to do with weight loss, but they can affect your digestive tract by killing the natural intestinal flora.

Switching Carbs from Grains to Fruits and Vegetables

Switching carbs from a grain source to fruits and veggies is also an important part of a weight loss program.  The importance of this cannot be overstated.  Wheat, in particular, has a high level of carbohydrates that turn into fat if they don’t get burned off.  Since the plan is to burn fat, why put something into your body that would slow down the process?

Naturally, your body still needs carbs, but instead, you should use fruits and vegetables as your source of these carbs.  They’re less complex than the wheat carbs, so they get burned faster.
